Love Story of Cupid Psyche

Fascinating Love story concerning about Cupid and his mortal Bride Psyche in Roman mythology. Venus was jealous of the beauty of Psyche, and ordered Cupid to punish the mortal. But instead, Cupid fell deeply in love with her. Cupid married Psyche, but Venus, jealous of Psyches beauty, forbade her daughter-in-law to look at Cupid. Psyche, of course, couldnt resist temptation and slip a peek at her handsome husband. As punishment, Venus orders that she execute three hard tasks, the last of which grounds Psyches death. Psyche was heavenly waiting her sisters convinced her to look at Cupid. The moment Psyche stare at Cupid, Cupid punish her by leaving her. Their lovely fortress and grounds gone astray as well. Psyche establishes her without help in an open field with no signs of other beings or Cupid. As she wanders trying to find her love, she came upon the temple of Venus.
Yearning to destroy her, the goddess of love confers Psyche a sequence of duties, all harder and hazardous than the previous. For her last task Psyche was given a small box and told to take it to the underworld. She was told to get a little of the beauty of Proserpine, the wife of Pluto, and put it in the box. During her trip she was given tips on avoiding the dangers of the earth of the dead. And also caution not to unlock the box. Attraction would conquer Psyche and she unlocks the box. But in its place of finding beauty, she found deadly sleep.
Cupid found her dead on the earth. He gathered the sleep from her body and put it back in the box. Cupid exonerates her, as did Venus. The gods, moved by Psyches love for Cupid made her a goddess. Cupid brought Psyche back to life and the gods, moved by their love, granted Psyche immortality. Cupid thus symbolizes the heart and Psyche the human soul.
